Ceramic Sculpture

My sculpture practice explores the human figure, botanical forms, and the symbolic language of nature through clay and ceramic processes. Developed in dialogue with my paintings, these works give physical form to themes of origin, transformation, fragility, and renewal—particularly within the evolving world of Eden.

Project Eden

In January 2024 I decided to realize a dream I have had for many decades: to try my hand at sculpting. At that time I started conceiving of what has now become "Project Eden". The idea was to see if I could translate my two dimensional quest for developing work around the archetypal theme of The Garden Of Eden into three dimensional form.

My ceramic instructor, respected local artist and educator Casey Gurr, taught me how to lean into decades of classical fine art knowledge and after taking the time to master the basics of hand-building, what emerged became several sculptural pieces now in progress and a few smaller, finished pieces I can show as more simplified examples of my work.

This remains a big "mission in progress" as I am developing Project Eden into what I hope will become a significant body of work embodying my vision of Etherealism in paintings and sculptures.

Work In Progress

This is a selection of two sculptural artworks in progress as they are getting ready for the first firing in the kiln.

Project 1 - Adam as Archetype

Project 2 - Eve as Archetype
